Biorevitalization: Beyond the Promises of Creams

Biorevitalization and the Secret to Healthier Skin
In aesthetic medicine, alongside treatments that modify facial volume, there are procedures with a different objective: improving skin quality. Among these, biorevitalisation holds a prominent place.
As Dr Meliga explains: «We inject hyaluronic acid into the dermis, where it is then reabsorbed over the first few days. However, its ability to attract water remains, triggering the production of new collagen. It therefore hydrates the skin while improving its elasticity and firmness».
Biorevitalization and Fillers: Two Treatments, Two Different Goals

One of the most common misconceptions concerns the difference between biorevitalisation and fillers. Although both use hyaluronic acid, their purposes are completely different.
«The difference lies in the objective. They have two different goals, but they can complement one another – Dr Meliga points out – Biorevitalization does not alter facial volume or morphological features. Instead, it hydrates the skin, improving its firmness and radiance. Fillers, on the other hand, restore lost volume. For example, they can replenish hollow cheekbones, support a jawline that has lost definition, or correct asymmetries. Both are made with hyaluronic acid, but in different formulations. One is a gel that provides structure, while the other is much more fluid and is designed to attract water».
When Results Become Visible and How Long They Last
Biorevitalization works progressively to improve skin quality. «The first improvements are already visible after the first session. After two weeks, the skin appears brighter and better hydrated. During that time, the hyaluronic acid has attracted water into the skin and new collagen synthesis begins – says Dr Meliga – With traditional biorevitalisation treatments, patients usually undergo an initial session followed by two additional sessions, each two weeks apart. Nowadays, newer biorevitalisation products with different formulations are available, making it possible to achieve results with a single treatment session».
To maintain the effects over time, as Dr Meliga notes, it is important to schedule maintenance sessions after five or six months, «because after four or five months, the hydrating effect has naturally worn off».
The Versatility of the Treatment
One of the greatest strengths of biorevitalisation is its versatility. The decision to undergo the treatment depends on the individual’s goals, age, lifestyle, and even insecurities shaped by the opinions of others.
Younger patients generally choose it because «they want to maintain good skin quality and preserve adequate hydration». For more mature skin, however, the goal is «to restore what may have been lost, such as firmness and radiance».
Biorevitalization can be performed throughout the year, although certain times are particularly favourable.

Dr Meliga recommends undergoing the treatment before seasonal changes. «For example, just before winter, before the cold weather and indoor heating arrive, as both tend to dry out the skin – he concludes – It is also beneficial shortly before increased sun exposure in the summer, because the sun puts stress on the skin. Better-hydrated skin is also much more resistant to UV rays».
