Breast surgery: hot topics and behavioural guidelines in Breast Units in Lombardy. The Lombardy regional congress ANISC on breast surgery will be held May 10 2024 at the “A. Manzoni” Hospital in Via dell’Eremo, 9/11 Lecco.

The event’s central theme reflects a sector in constant evolution, with numerous “hot topics” which peak the interest of the whole medical community. Some of the main features of Breast Units are its efficient service and the way it humanises its patients. These specialised structures are focused on diagnosis, treatment and follow-ups regarding breast pathologies. They offer a multidisciplinary approach integrated with the patient’s treatment, involving different specialists. The whole personnel must follow strict guidelines based on ethical principles, clinical standards and best practices, being sympathetic towards people who come seeking advice and provide them with clear and comprehensive information regarding their condition.

How to discuss and keep up with breast surgery

The day will feature lectures, sessions and moments of discussion on multiple topics. From “De-escalation and treatment of breast cancer” and “The fate of the sentinel lymph node” to “Breast Units in Lombardy: comparing behaviour” and “Communicating a diagnosis”. The various meetings are going to be moderated by experts in the sector, who will also be supported by the scientific secretary, which is the operational focal point of the congress.

The event is addressed to surgeons specialised in pathological anatomy, general surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, chest, medical genetics, internal medicine, psychotherapy, oncology, radiodiagnostics, radiotherapy. But not only, the meeting is also dedicated to nurses and therapists.

Participation is free and it is required to pre-register on the Sidera website. The course, created in part with the sponsorship from Revée, will award participants with 5 ECM credits to those who attend at least 90% of the event. The congress is an opportunity for an interdisciplinary discourse and to network. It encourages an exchange of knowledge in order to achieve a more complete treatment focused on patients.
